Hi all-
It sounds as if your scripts are all i pretty good shape. if anybody has further questions, please email me your script and I will go over it with you. Otherwise, I presume you will use tomorrow to put together a nice, final piece.
We will screen the packages at 10AM Friday morning. As usual, that means in class at that time, DVD ready to rock and roll. We will then have a lunch break before graduation. The "NBC Guest" won't happen due to the breaking news this week and much of NBC scattered and out of pocket. My apologies, but I am very pleased Brian had the chance to speak with us Monday and that the broadcast was so interesting to watch.
You are to be at the NYFA SOHO (568 Broadway, 2nd floor) Annex at 2pm. We will have a little ceremony that will last 30-40 minutes. At that time, you will all receive your certificates (and a treat).
On a more somber note, I believe by now many of you know Melissa's grandmother passed away yesterday. Melissa is now in Miami with her family and will not be back before the end of the course. She has posted a message on the student blog. I know you all join me in sending our thoughts to Melissa and her family.
See you Friday-
Marian

Upcoming package
Good quality class time today, guys. Remember your story pitches are due tomorrow afternoon. I would like to have them by 2PM so I can look them over while Annette Freeman is conducting her energetic long-form master class. Please have them TYPED for me.
This story will run 1:30-1:45 and SHOULD include a stand-up. So, think ahead, organize, plan where you will do your stand-up BEFORE you go out to shoot. If you are not sure if you should do a bridge or a close, protectively do both.
See you tomorrow, usual time.

Updated schedule that Alex emailed
Good Sunday-
Please use the excel schedule that Alex sent on Thursday as the 'working' schedule. My apologies for frequent changes, but often people who are scheduled for a Master Class have a change in THEIR schedule, for obvious reasons. I also really want you folks to do an additional package. The next three weeks will fly by as they will be quite busy. On Monday, Aug 17 (next Monday), we will meet with someone from NBC's Talent and recruitment unit and she will help with clip reels and resumes.
See you tomorrow morning with your In Your Own Words. (Have you learned how important it is to shoot enough B-roll?)

farewell and next week
Good luck to the students leaving us. please let us know how things go for all of you as you enter the next stage of life. it's been a pleasure having all of you in class.
For those remaining, Monday we have class from 10am to 11:30am (approx). From 12:30-3:30pm, we will do more practice interviews. Please come to class with prepared questions.
On Tuesday morning, Nicole will teach another FCP class (9:30a-12:30p). The remainder of the day will be spent screening your practice interviews and forming a short piece of about :40 seconds using your interview subject as the entire spot. This is a production workshop for the full interview piece you will do at the end of the week. Please start thinking of somebody OUTSIDE of class with whom you can do a sitdown inview....someone who has an interesting background or job or lifestyle or merely a news or feature story to share.
Have a good weekend.

Friday's project
Please shoot your stand-up before about 12;30p Friday. The only thing I need you to do is capture the one you like best and put it on DVD. We will look at your stand-ups at 2pm Friday. After that, those of you leaving after 4 weeks will receive your certificate.
If you'd like to bring in something to eat and drink, that would be great. We'll have a little soiree in Kubrick post certificates.
For anybody extending, please be sure I am aware and also tell Nina in Admissions.

VOSOT Format
Helpful hints on the script format for the VOSOT....
1) the script should be only on the right side (right column) of the page; double spaced would be helpful for editing.
2) please remember to mark your script to show where you will be "on camera" and where your video will start (just edit black onto your project where the "o/c" occurs.
3) put the verbatim of your "sound on tape" in cap letters.
4) write the name of the sound bite speaker on the left column, across from where the sound bit appears in the script.

Hi all- A few things, please. First of all, please be in class at 9:30 tomorrow (Friday) WITH your v/o burned onto a DVD. We will start viewing and critiquing them at that time. Any and all questions will be address tomorrow.
Monday....we will start class at 10 AM, rather than 9:30. Please read or watch the news of the weekend as we will have a current events discussion for the first hour... come prepared. At 11am, we will be joined by Lester Holt, the anchor of Weekend Today and Weekend Nightly News. Lester will be with us from 11a-1p and lunch will be at 2p.
In the afternoon, we will go over YOUR HOMEWORK! By Monday, please write TWO tells. A reminder that a "tell" is a straight on camera with the anchor telling a story without the use of video or full screen graphics. Go to the Internet or the newspaper and read a story that you then write as a (n approximate) 30 second tell. We will review this tomorrow at the end of the morning class.
See you in the morning, I hope the editing went well.

Good afternoon- I just want to keep you updated on a change in the schedule. NBC's VP of Practice and Standards is unable to make Monday's class, so that guest lecture is rescheduled for Wednesday from 1:30-3:30. On Monday, we will complete the Glossary of Terms in the morning and I will teach the lesson originally planned for Wednesday (Developing stories/Telling it with video/natural sound and research) on Monday afternoon.
Please remember to keep up with the reading assignments, stay in touch with the news and to have your THREE story pitches in typed form to hand to me on Monday morning.
Thanks-
